When my hubby celebrated his 65th birthday I felt he still deserved a special card. A few years back becoming 65 was a landmark, reaching retirement age, pension, bus pass etc. He has to wait till his next birthday before all that. Here’s his card, a show stopper style card made using various dies including; Spellbinders All the Tools Etched Dies, Sizzix Bigz Alphabet Dies Sassy Serif Numbers, Unknown brand layered wine bottle and cheers dies and Card Making Magic sentiment dies.
Special landmark birthdays require a special card. A friend of mine asked me to make some cards for her three friends who would all be turning 80. I used the same design for all 3 but changed the colours and the types of flowers so that they would all be slightly different.
This card was made using various dies including; Sizzix Thinlits Die Floral Layers #02 665083, Bright Rosa Birthday Words Dies, Card Making Magic Die Sets Solid & Overlay Alphabet Letters and Hunkdory Moonstone relatives sentiments dies.
For this card I used unbranded layered lily dies, Sizzix Thinlits Die Floral Layers #02 66508 , Bright Rosa Birthday Words Dies, Card Making Magic Die Sets Solid & Overlay numbers dies, Tattered Lace Expressions Of Lace Upper case alphabet dies and Hunkdory Moonstone relatives sentiments dies.
For the last card I used various dies including; Gemini Elements Double-Sided Flower Die – Peony, Sizzix Thinlits Die Floral Layers #02 665083, Bright Rosa Birthday Words Dies, Card Making Magic Die Sets Solid & Overlay numbers dies, Tattered Lace Expressions of Lace Upper and Lower case alphabets and Hunkdory Moonstone relatives sentiments dies.
My sister is a card maker like me so I always try to make somethings extra special for her birthday as she is one of the few people that actually understands what goes into hand made cards. This time, with it being her 70th I wanted to go the extra mile. I’m a big fan of Srushti Patil who makes the most incredible 3D and interactive cards. I made this card following her instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V53985c-_x0 and used some layered sentiment dies; Card Making Magic Die Set Happy Birthday, Creative Craft Products Die & Stamp Sets various sentiment snipped, Sizzix Originals Shadow box Numbers dies and The Paper Boutique Female relatives set for the word Sister. The finished project looked good enough to eat.
I was asked to make a special card for a friend whose daughter was getting married in Las Vegas. It had to be special but relatively easy to transport without getting damaged so I opted for a fairly flat design and used pictures of the venues and maps to make it more personal to the couple. The fold was inspired by Sam Calcott’s Lock & Pop cards.
My sister and her hubby became grandparents to a beautiful baby girl. So I decided that they should get a congratulations card too. It game me chance to use some of the super cute baby dies I have in my stash. I chose the double Z fold as it makes for great mantlepiece appeal.
When there’s a new arrival in the family, what better way to mark the occasion than by sending a specially personalised hand made keepsake card. This type of card is one of my most popular ones by far.
I’ve seen a few versions of this type of card on youtube and pinterest so can’t really credit one person for the inspiration as I’ve no idea who thought of it first. Having said all that, I thought I’d give this a go for my brother in law’s birthday. I’m really happy with how it turned out and will definitely be making more of this style in the future.
I’ve seen lots of cute ideas for cards made with inky backgrounds and simple silhouettes so I thought I’d have a play. I often craft with my crafting best buddy whom I’ve never actually met. But, with the wonders of Whatsapp we craft together, share ideas hints and tips. So one day we decided to make some inky backgrounds together. After a relatively short time I had quite a pile of them, smooshed, blended, splattered etc. Then came the challenge to make them into cards. I used Black die cuts and added gems, glossy accents and small sized sequin confetti for subtle touches of sparkle and shine. Here are the results. All cards are A6 in size and just perfect to keep in a drawer for those times when I need a last minute card.
These were the special cards I made to send to my own family last Christmas. They are A4 folded in half lengthwise so are quite tall and definitely have mantlepiece appeal. I opted for the same design for all of these but varied the colour scheme. I made eight of these in total, 2 in each colour. I used the Hot Off The Press ‘Vintage Christmas’ CD Rom at 50% transparency and various dies including: Sizzix Framelits Die Set 4PK – Stars, Primitive, Spellbinders – Shapeabilities – Layered Poinsettia, Memory Box Chloe stem die, flourish die from LR0116 – Marianne Creatables set, Spellbinders Die Foliage and Tattered Lace Let It Snow Die Set. The background papers were inked around the edges, then stamped and heat embossed with white embossing powder using snowflake stamps from cover gift with issue 100 of Creative Stamping magazine. I used pearlescent and texture metallics card stock, nuvo drops, sparkly gem stones and gem stone brads to add a luxurious finish.
This was the second Special Christmas Card design that I made for my friend to give to her In laws, they always appreciate a religious themed card. This was made in the same way as those in my previous post but using different dies ; Unbranded Pierced ovals dies, unbranded pierced rectangles dies, Card Making Magic Die Set All Occasions #2 Set, Card Making Magic Die Set Ultimate Relations, Scenic nativity dies from issue 184 of Simply Cards & Papercraft and Cheery Lynn die 100 stars.
